Variations are based on pole location, the length/weight of individual wood block, the area of touching surface, and the number of units. In the final variation, three blocks balance through six strings and three touching surfaces perpendicular to each other.

EQUILIBRIUM MODEL  / EXPERIMENT SIX

This project explores the equilibrium of solid masses allocated in space within a virtual bounding box (30x30x60cm) using compressive and tensile linear forces. Wood blocks are used as solid masses (load), lift them by nylon strings (tensile forces) and compress one block against another (compression forces) to achieve the equilibrium. The strings in tension are connected to four poles plugged into the four corners of the wood board.
