HANGING MODEL / EXPERIMENT ONE
The original model consisted of an upper platform, through which rods would extend to connect the hanging material. The varying heights of the rods manipulated the form. When the cloth form in tension was hardened by resin and inverted, the hanging rods acted as columns. Advancing the original concept, we used a second layer of elastic fabric as the platform, using various weights to create an undulating topography. This second piece of fabric was stretched across the top of the bounding box. We connected the hanging fabric structure with magnets and used epoxy resin on both fabric layers to create the catenary arch and the topography.
