HANGING MODEL / EXPERIMENT ONE
This experiment tests the ability of a catenary arch(es) and straight chain members to support and level an acrylic plane. An equidistant triangular grid of holes attaches the chain to the plane and to the exterior acrylic support structure. Variables tested include different lengths of chain, heights of arches, and numbers of chains to support the same gridded plane. Progression to an inverted version resolved the chains as oblique wooden supports with pegs fitting into the triangular grid, rendering the plane very stable.
