MEMBRANE MODEL  / EXPERIMENT TWO

We developed a system of nine connected membranes, made of a thin, highly elastic fabric, that when stretched would fill the surface area of a bounding box. The12x12x12in bounding box made of clear acrylic punctuated on each side with a 1x1in grid. The 9 membranes were connected to each other and then connected to the bounding box through four control points on the bottom and top of the membrane. The structural integrity of these modules was generated through tensile forces transferred through the points at which they were fastened to each other and the boundary surfaces.
