EQUILIBRIUM MODEL / EXPERIMENT SEVEN

The Balancing Square was created by combining various elements from each of our individual ideas. All three of us wanted to include a wire to create tension between the elevated square, and the flat baseboard. Our project included the use of a secondary compressed object between the square and the baseboard. The secondary object was held in position with the help of small holes placed in the top of the baseboard;

these holes allowed for greater friction between the secondary object and the baseboard. When faced with building the physical model, we found that some secondary objects created a more stable structure than others. For example, the cone shape allowed for the square to remain stable at a sharper angle. In addition, we found that the balancing square had to be leaning away from the center in order to achieve equilibrium.
