EQUILIBRIUM MODEL / EXPERIMENT SEVEN
For the equilibrium model, our group constructed a structural concept utilizing primarily wood and sewing string. The parametric variations in the model occur by moving the wooden plank into one of six different slots on the back frame of the model. The slots increase by one sixteenth of an inch in height, which in turn causes the angle of the wooden plank to increase as well. In our structural concept, the wooden cube acts as a stereotomic solid.
The wooden plank acts a compression element, and the sewing strings acts as a tension element. In the process of constructing our structural concept, we made several modifications such as the addition of notches on the wooden plank, wooden cube, and wooden frame to secure the sewing strings in place. We also customized the shape of the wooden plank to keep it flush against the wooden frame.
