EQUILIBRIUM MODEL / EXPERIMENT NINE
This project explores the various ways in which notched square planar elements and a stable, spine-like structure can come together to achieve a state of equilibrium. Each notched square acts as a mass, while the wood plank acts as a spine for the various assemblages. Friction and normal forces in the notch connections between the spine and wooden base prevent the aggregation from falling apart.
While the normal forces at the joints create compression forces within each square. Finally, the string provides tension to increase the friction and normal forces between the aggregated units, bringing the compositions in a state of equilibrium.
