FOLDING MODEL  / EXPERIMENT THREE

For our final folding model, in order to expand on our previous use of modular systems, we took advantage of the medium of paper to create a collapsible folding structure composed of small units. The model is made out of a single sheet of paper, that is initially scored in geometric pattern, wrapped into a cylinder and folded in on itself. By “popping out” the triangular sections of each module, a motif that has existed in our previous models, the folds offer enough resistance to allow the module to retain it’s expanded shape. With a single module open, the structure is capable of holding up to fifteen pounds. By repeating this strategy for every other module, the layers in between act as platforms that could potentially act as floor plates.
