FOLDING MODEL / EXPERIMENT ONE

For our project, we were interested in the idea of collapsible spaces, specifically in the context of relief and/or portable housing. We began testing different folding techniques, and after some experimentations, came up with several arch-like structures that could be collapsed from 3D to 2D and expanded vice versa. We found that the shape of this form appealed to easy transportation and allowed for many variations in its shape/structure/scale. We also learned that the optimal thickness of the paper had to satisfy both strength and flexibility needs, as our idea of relief/portable housing must be both structurally sound and easy to collapse/open up.
