FOLDING MODEL / EXPERIMENT TWO

Our team was interested in exploring the spatial capabilities of a geometric surface through folding. The inspiration for the final project was found in origami manipulations that change the structure and form of the material. After completing multiple sets of experiments with standard folding techniques on paper, we decided to introduce the central spine. The central spine supplemented additional support and dimension to a flat surface. Multiple variations investigate different placement of the spine and distance between the folds. The placement of the central spine as well as varying the amount of the folds contributed to spatial characteristics, such as asymmetry, density, and deployability of the structure.
