We began this exercise by experimenting with several folding patterns, aiming to find one that would allow for structural stability but also reasonable flexibility. We played with the scale of the folds as well as material and surface area of our paper. Eventually, we settled on a pattern of right-angled triangles, finding that this provided optimum stability and flexibility for our variations. We created six variations that continued the exploration of the void that we investigated in our previous exercise. Starting with the folded paper fully compressed for the first variation, we then began unfolding, expanding, and twisting to achieve more complex variations. Next, we attempted to further solidify the form by plastering one of the iterations. We observed the weighted effect the plaster and water had on the form, which resulted in a significant alteration and displacement of the folds, creating its own unique form.
