Our group was interested in the way we could create a collapsible deployable structure that could be deployed in various conditions. Some examples would be a concert venue, pavilion, medical tent, or other various forms to shelter and protect people from the elements. We explored the way we could combine techniques learned from Paul Jackson’s Folding Techniques for Designers: From Sheet to Form to create our desired structures. We settled on creating a knife across an accordion fold and we made the same fold at two scales to investigate the different spatial conditions that could be made simply by simply altering the width of the folds we made. This change in scale uses the same length of the paper.
