HANGING MODEL / EXPERIMENT EIGHT
This project investigates creating space through different vaulting configurations. To create the vaults we suspended chains to create catenary arches. Our catenary arches are connected at nodes, and intersect at subnodes. To achieve variation we move the primary nodes along a presubscribed path in the x and y-plane. In later iterations, we also start to move the subnodes vertically along the z-plane. In these two levels of vaulting, the generated geometry is also affected by the weight of the chains and how gravity acts on the different location of nodes, sometimes creating different conditions of “slack” in the chain.
