HANGING MODEL / EXPERIMENT NINE

The project explores form-making with magnetism. We wanted to investigate an alternative method to create a shape through the self-forming process that resembles a hanging form. For our idea, we had to consider several parameters: the poles of the magnet, a fabric’s ability to stretch, the magnet's strength, the distance between the magnet attached to the fabric, and the one used to attract/repel. Because of uncertain factors, primarily the magnets, we needed to design a bounding box with adjustable height. So we decided to use carriage bolts and nuts. The fabric was placed between two pieces of a plywood frame with holes for the bolts to slide through. With this solution, we were able to have equal tension on the fabric and adjust the fabric's height to desired outcomes.
