HANGING MODEL / EXPERIMENT NINE

This model develops a system for rapidly testing compositions of catenary arches with a series of standardized chains and magnets. The inverted form can be previewed in the reflection of the frame from which they hang. A grid on this acrylic frame allows for easily diagramming and reproducing the designs in 3D modeling software from which prototypes can then be laser cut. A free-spinning footing allows the necessarily rectangular ends of the laser cut arches to rotate to any angle to create a compression model matching the hanging model above.
