MEMBRANE MODEL / EXPERIMENT SIX

The goal was this model was to generate a form-finding system that produces dynamism in its variations by using rings as a structural element and a tensile membrane secured at different control points along with the rings. The model explores a tensile membrane system pulled between three structural rings, all with different diameters, that are suspended by cables that attach to the bounding box at a diagonal. By modifying the control points of the cables and the membranes, the system stretches and relaxes the membrane along the diagonal axis of the bounding box to produce formal variations. As a result, the floating system generates different spatial conditions and degrees of sheerness with this white translucent material. When the floating membrane-ring structure is combined with the thinness of the cables and transparency of the bounding box, the model evokes a sense of lightness and levitation.
