Our group's membrane project focused on wooden reeds and a transparent mesh, drawing inspiration from indigenous architectural practices to push the material's boundaries. We aimed to create a sustainable framework with the reeds, employing a weaving strategy to enhance structural integrity. This was realized through a grid system combining axial symmetry and free-form elements, underpinned by rectilinear and circular grids. We experimented with reed lengths and thicknesses across six variations, incorporating dense and open weaving patterns. We then stretched the mesh material over the frameworks to create our membranes This approach not only provided structural diversity but also showcased reeds potential in modern architecture, blending traditional techniques with innovative design.
