RECIPROCAL MODEL / EXPERIMENT TEN
To understand reciprocal relationships is to understand forces. Newton’s Third Law teaches us that: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore, every interaction involves a pair of forces working mutually to produce a certain condition. Our exploration seeks to fully integrate this relationship from the scale of the joint to the scale of space. Using again a simple set of linear structural elements – square dowels (held together with wood joinery) and string – the system resists the force of gravity through tension.
The six parametric variations can be further categorized into two subsets exploiting a series of one-dimensional frames and two-dimensional frames, respectively. As a result, the variations begin to generate studies of nuanced spatial conditions through reciprocity.
