RECIPROCAL MODEL / EXPERIMENT SEVEN

For the reciprocal model, our group developed a structural concept utilizing wood construction. The structural model is made up of half inch dowels that alter between four, six, and eight inches in length. These modules have a standardized number of round incisions and the distance between incisions is based on the length of the module. The modules are connected by placing eighth inch dowels vertically between the incisions of opposing modules.

The slimer connecting dowels have a length of half an inch and sit one sixteenth of an inch into the module. The variations in the model occur by rearranging the modules to create different forms and test different structural principles. In the process of constructing our structural concept, we changed our joint connection a few times. While we had originally planned to create notches into the modules, utilizing round incisions and connectors allowed us to better demonstrate the forces occurring in our structural model.
