RECIPROCAL MODEL / EXPERIMENT TEN

The model is a system of straws held in compression by a system of strings that are in tension. The aggregation of this system creates spatial qualities from the straws and strings. In most cases a triangulation of reciprocal tension in the strings was required to keep the system of straws upright and stable. Our aggregate system was built by following the tension of the strings. If an aggregate created a looser tension, we would add a reciprocal force to counteract the looseness.

This patternining is what led to the various iterations from 01-02, and 03-06. Iteration 01-02 built the system of straws and string around a single straw that acted as a center point for where all the tension was being pulled to. Iterations 03-06 is a series where the system of straws and strings were built off of a rectangular base and as the structure grew taller we branched out in ways that made the system seem unstable, but in fact was tightly held in compression and tension.
