RECIPROCAL MODEL / EXPERIMENT NINE
Nate Ehrlich, Alex Pina, Fenghua Lin
The reciprocal experiment explores dierent conditions of using wall and truss, vertical support conditions, to achieve stability in both the horizontal and vertical axis of a model as well as in real building. Such a contrast between a more solid wall and a light truss not only provides an alternating facade pattern but also impacts the spatial quality in each plane. As shown in those precedents, a truss facade is often considered more open and light than an enclosed wall. Another critical aspect that is tested in the experiment is the theoretical conguration of wall/truss placement, allowing the structure to reduce rotational eect of horizontal forces, in reality whose forces would be caused by wind (and the nature of truss would be more suitable for tall building as they’re perforated in response to strong wind loads).
