Inspired by Sergio Musmeci’s structural folding works, this project explores a 3D folded plate structure that’s equivalent to a three hinged frame, and how the structural folding is not limited only to the roof but could be applied to the entire load-bearing structure of a building. The fold produced a polygonal approximation of a curvature where each fold would naturally define a rigid edge and nodes. By controlling the folded pattern and therefore the radius of the curvature, it produced an intensional section that could be read as a steep wall then gradually transit to a vault.
