Our third model takes the triangular frames established in the first two projects along with the flexible textile covering used in the second project to create a pavilion type structure. The frames make up all of the structural elements in the building, with each member of the frame acting individually as steel beams that come together to form a stable truss that resists the compressive and tensile forces applied by gravity.

Two of these trusses are created, sitting at opposite ends of the structure to allow the flexible shading material to hang between them. Since the flexible material is only acted upon by its own self weight, the element is under pure tension, forming a catenary curve that greatly contrasts the rigidity of the trusses. This contrast creates two distinct spaces within our pavilion. The dense steel structures serve as interior, walled off spaces while the more open shading space allows people to flow through freely.
