The concept for our equilibrium model is rooted in a seesaw system—one that carries a recurring load, the rock, across all six variations and reexamines conventions of weight and balance. For the six studies, we focused on removing and replacing specific materials—lifting out an acrylic plane that acted as the seemingly “non-existent” support, or swapping the wooden rod for a bendable member to observe how weight and thread-applied tension influence the whole. Through testing, problem-solving, and dismantling preconceptions, we arrived at a model that retains a wooden rod, wooden and acrylic planes, thread, and a brick, reconfigured to expand “equilibrium.”
