The main concept of our model came from using discarded materials found in the wood shop. We began our design process by observing and understanding the characteristics of each material: the u-shaped wooden slab allowed for a “sliding” motion, the hollow plastic tube allowed us to thread string through, the carabiners acted as heavy weights with both the ability to clip and hang, the washers assisted as medium weights, and the wood wedges had varying angles and side lengths. Each property worked in tandem to create unique conditions where different elements must resist various applied forces to remain in equilibrium.
