This form finding experiment initially evolved from a simple concept; a series of tensile elements that create volume depending their origin point and length, determined by an externally attached weight. Greatly inspired by the work of Antoni Gaudí, the decision to add applied loads to the hanging strings changed the project from a series of catenary arches to one of linear elements. To accentuate the form-finding nature of the exercise while keeping it measurable and repeatable, the sole changing variable was the addition of one string (same length and weight as its predecessors) that would ultimately increase the number of vertices created at intersecting lines. The decision to stack a square and circular frame was done to add interest and complexity in the resulting hanging volumes. This decision also created a moment of opportunity for the square and circle to speak to each other as the language of additional strings connected the two frames creating the dialogue.
