Our final proposal is a modular pegboard system, which allows for the insertion and manipulation of folded, corrugated paper modules acting as a sheltered pavilion space. Each fold is anchored via a clipping mechanism, allowing us to test how folded geometries deform, self-stiffen, or respond when fixed at various points across a grid. It provides an exhibition of various structural and aesthetic capabilities of the system.
The system invites interactive configuration, with endless unfolding possibilities. We took inspiration from the Yokohama Ferry Terminal by Foreign Office Architects and the Xinggang Li Train Station, both of which utilize continuous pleated roof and facade expressions. These helped inform our understanding of folding as a design and structural strategy.
