This project expands upon the previous exercise in which we investigated the spatial potential of compression-based structural forms by analyzing the self-formation process of hanging membranes. In this instance, we focus on the spatial opportunities presented by tension-based structural forms when forces are exerted on stretchable membranes. For our modules, we employed two distinct colors of stretchable mesh spandex fabrics, which were affixed to the sides of a bounding box with a 2-inch gap between them. Control points were established at both the top and bottom bases, where eye bolts were secured into the wood. The fabric also featured identical control points, equipped with snap hooks to facilitate easy pulling towards the top base. We then began to investigate various methods of attaching hooks to the different control points on the base, as well as connecting the fabrics to one another to create a tensioned structure.
