The hanging model for our group was an exploration of the relationships between cut paper and weight. The project features 6 distinct iterations of cut paper patterns. The elastic quality of the paper would allow it to react to weight being suspended from its center. This meant that we could repeat our weighted tests so long as the paper demonstrated elasticity. For the cuts themselves, the proximity of parallel cuts and length of cuts results in a more dramatic deflection of the cut form. A cut paper pattern that exhibited more deflection would be more structurally robust as a compression model than a pattern that exhibited less deflection.
